FAQ

What water activities can I do with my dog?

From kayaking, paddleboarding, canoeing, and boating to dock diving, retrieving, or simply swimming, there are many ways to experience the water with your dog.

Start with calm, positive sessions where your dog feels safe, and build confidence step by step so you can enjoy the water together.

Which dog flotation gear should I choose?

The right level of support for your dog depends on your activities and your dog’s needs.

For swimming activities, kayaking, SUP, Search and Rescue, and other activities in open water and warm weather, a dog life jacket is the right choice. Our life jackets for dogs offer a high amount of buoyancy and smart features to efficiently improve swimming technique, help your dog stay longer in the water, and safely keep them afloat at all times and in emergency situations.

For cold-water activities, retrieving, and bird hunting, a dog neoprene vest is the right choice. The neoprene helps your dog retain body heat while providing light buoyancy and protecting your dog from sharp vegetation. Choose the low-profile Protector neoprene vest light for maximum stealth, or the Protector neoprene vest for added buoyancy and visibility.

Do dogs need life jackets?

For safety, you are advised to always use a life jacket for your dog when being in or by the water. Accidents can happen even to the best swimmers. The risk increases with colder temperatures, when your dog is swimming longer distances, or when swimming in deep or moving water. In distress, a dog will often drop their back end causing them to quickly disappear under the surface of the water. A life jacket will help keep your dog afloat and reduce the risk of drowning.

When introducing a dog to water for the first time, a life jacket will give them a positive experience with the new element by providing extra support and stability. This helps lay the foundation for lots of fun in the years to come!

Our life jackets are designed for freedom of movement and help promote swimming technique.

Do dogs need a drying coat?

Using a drying coat for your dog can benefit both of you! Since every dog’s coat is different, some are more prone to shivering when wet, especially if they don’t have a double coat.

Dogs with thick, long, or double coats are also at risk of matting, infections, or skin problems when damp. Using a towel or drying coat reduces these risks and speeds up recovery time. Factors like age, temperature, and general health also play a role in your dog’s comfort.

While your dog enjoys cozy time in a comfortable drying coat, you’ll save time - it’s quick, easy to put on, and reduces the need for rubbing. Plus, it helps protect your home and car from water and mud while keeping wet dog smells away.
