The Freemotion harness 5.0 is an adjustable dog pulling harness with an ergonomic design.

A good harness is essential for your dog’s comfort, performance and injury prevention. With the aim of developing a harness that would unleash our dog’s potential, we started sewing the first prototype of the Freemotion harness in 2006. The product development has been continuous ever since.

This upgraded version of the Freemotion harness is the result of years of experience and testing. The classic Y-shaped front allows free shoulder movement and minimal breathing constraints. The Freemotion harness 5.0 has a padded neck opening for optimum stability and support. This dog harness is specifically designed for activities with a high pulling point, such as running, biking or skiing. The pull force is evenly distributed over your dog’s body without putting pressure on their spine. When leaning into the harness, the power of each stride is utilized to the maximum, turning running together into a whole new experience for both you and your dog.

Even though the previous models could already last for a decade, we have improved the materials used for the Freemotion harness 5.0. All fabrics are carefully chosen to be both durable and comfortable. The inner lining is gentle to your dog’s coat. There are no hard edges, and every seam has its smooth side towards your dog's body to prevent chafing.

3M™ reflective keeps your dog visible on dark or overcast days. The Freemotion harness 5.0 is equipped with a reflective loop* allowing you to see how your dog move, even in the dark. A safety light (not included) can be attached to this loop for extra visibility.

The Freemotion harness 5.0 comes in a wide range of sizes and is adjustable to fit most dogs.

This pulling harness is available in colors orange/black, pink/gray, and blue/gray.

*A leash must not be directly attached to the reflective loop. This will not hold the dog and may result in product failure.

FAQ

How to measure my dog for the Freemotion harness 5.0?

The size finder on the product's page will help you find the correct size for your dog. Based on the measurements, simply fill in your dog’s numbers and a size will be suggested for you. With this tool, you will also see if your dog is close to going one size up or down. If your dog is in between sizes, we recommend you choose the bigger size for small/medium dogs (up to size 6) in particular. The colored tab on the harness indicates which size the harness is.

The harness’s dimensions are available on the product page if needed.

If the harness does not fit, you can exchange the harness for the right size. Visitthis page to read more about returns and exchange.

How to fit the Freemotion harness 5.0?

The Freemotion harness 5.0 is adjustable to fit as many dogs as possible. Adjusting the harness correctly is important to utilize the properties to the maximum.

When going through this checklist, your dog should stand up, and the harness should be held in a pulling position.Orwatch this video.1 - NeckYou should be able to fit two fingers vertically between the top of your dog’s neck and the harness for a medium-sized dog (sizes 4-7). A bit less for smaller dogs, more for bigger dogs. A pulling harness should be quite snug around the neck!Important!Fingers on top of each other, between your dog’s neck and harness.2 - DepthWith the side straps, you adjust the depth to fit your dog’s chest. For medium-sized dogs, you should be able to fit two fingers vertically between your dog’s chest and the harness.3 – Chest boneThe lowest point of the neck opening should be at your dog’s chest bone. The position can be adjusted with the side straps.4 - ArmpitsMake sure there is room for your dog to move freely.5 - RibsThe side straps should lie on your dog’s rib cage, not further back than the last rib bone.6 – Attachment pointAdjust so that the rope you attach the line to starts right above the base of your dog’s tail. Lock the backstrap by simply threading the end of the strap back through the metal slip lock.Important!Ensure the knots on the leash attachment rope are tight before use.Tips! If you find it hard to take the harness on/off, twist it sideways when pulling it over your dog’s head. You can also loosen the side straps and open the hook and loop fastener at the back if needed. If you have any questions about the fit, feel free to reach out to our experts at customer support, and send us pictures of your dog wearing the harness. The best angle is from the side while your dog is pulling.

What is the difference between static and elastic side straps?

The Freemotion harness 5.0 comes with static side straps as a standard. From size 4 and up, these can be replaced with elastic side straps. Elastic side straps give your dog a few more centimeters of movement for each stride. Because of this, elite athletes doing canicross, bikejoring and skijoring often prefer to use elastic side straps. The elastic straps are made for racing, and are less durable than the static straps.

Which spare parts are available for the Freemotion harness 5.0?

We want you to have your harness for many years. Therefore parts that are exposed to wear and tear are available for purchase. You can find the spare parts inthis section on our website. You can watch how to change the side strapsin this video.

Which knot is used on the back piece, and how do I tie it?

The knot at the rope on the back piece is called a Fisherman’s knot. Tighten the knots before using the Freemotion harness 5.0 for the first time.

What is the difference between the Freemotion harness 5.0 and the previous model?

The main difference is the padded neck and optimized fit. A reflective loop* has been added at the top of your dog’s neck. We have also improved the materials for better durability and comfort, and chosen to stitch the ends of the adjustable back piece to prevent it from sliding. The colored straps that indicate size have changed to smaller, colored tabs. We have chosen stitched logos rather than silicone on the Freemotion harness 5.0, as it is a more sustainable choice.

*A leash must not be directly attached to the reflective loop. This will not hold the dog and may result in product failure.

What is the difference between the Freemotion harness 5.0 and the Combined harness?

What’s the difference between the Freemotion harness 5.0 and the Nansen nome harness 5.0?

The Freemotion harness 5.0 is developed for activities with a high pulling center, where your dog’s line is attached to a bike or a belt. The Nansen nome harness 5.0 is shaped specifically for activities with a low pulling center, such as pulling a sled. The Freemotion harness 5.0 is adjustable, while the Nansen nome harness 5.0 comes in fixed sizes.

How wide is the chest piece?

You can find the width of the chest piece and other product measurements under “Product dimensions” on this page.
