Professional trail runner Manuel Merillas Moledo lost the motivation to run and the desire to live after a bad injury. Border collie Zar got him back on his feet and helped him become Spanish champion, European champion and World champion.
Get to know them better in our mini-documentary!
- I've been surrounded by dogs my whole life. I couldn't imagine a future without someone who looks at you with attentive eyes, who thinks of you and is always there for you. On a daily basis, Zar, in addition to being a motivation, has given me the desire to live again. I didn't have it a while ago due to a significant injury. Now he is my motivation to get up in the morning. I had to go out to the mountains to walk him. Little by little, I got better, thanks to him.
Zar makes Manuel run more and train more.
- He makes me enjoy more, and feel refreshed with energy. Running would not be the same without him. I don't have a trainer, but I always say that Zar is my personal trainer. Nobody ́s better than him. Zar is my companion in life. We do absolutely everything together; skiing, running, and cycling. We have been to ravines, caves and done mountaineering. With Zar, I've climbed all that do not involve ropes or have dangerous elements.
Zar is one of three dogs who climbed the Italian route to the top of Mont Blanc. He has also been to Gran Paradiso.
- I can't imagine a future without Zar. He is accompanying me everywhere. Maybe Zar might be the dog with the most kilometers and elevation gain in his paws in the World.
